Music from the World of Orchids April 13 & 14, 2013; 1:00pm & 3:00pm Venue:New York Botanical Garden,2900 Southern Boulevard, Bronx, NY 10458 Charanams, the world music band performs exotic music blending carnatic , jazz, blues & other styles. Charanams will explore the beauty of carnatic ragas, in various styles on veena, saxophone, guitar and vocal, at the Orchid Show. Charanams will be presenting new tunes in the concert. Stroll through the beautiful garden, while your eyes feast on the beauty of Orchids from around the world and ears enjoy the music of Charanams.Nivedita ShivRaj-Veena Music from the world of Orchids Charanams for Weddings & Events Charanams presents unique, exotic music for memorable occasions such as weddings, anniversaries, family events, corporate events and fund raisers. Charanams in Top 50 Coolest Desis of 2011 CULTURAL CROSSROADS: BRAZIL MEETS INDIA Friday, April 05, 2013; 8pm Venue:Flushing Town Hall,137-35 Northern Blvd. Flushing, New York 11354. Flushing Town Hall presented Nivedita ShivRaj performing Indian music on the Veena with her World Music band - Charanams, in Cultural Crossroads, mixing two cultures. The team enthralled the audience with carnatic compositions and original compositions of Nivedita ShivRaj, lush melodies with strong spiritual connection. Two cultures - Brazil and India, came together on one stage for a NEW series with an open dance floor. Dance lessons at 7pm was followed by music of the two bands and a musical jam. Velly Bahia was featured Axe music from Bahia, linking Brazil’s African roots with energetic drumming, dancing and homage to the deities - The Orishas. The concert was one of the many events of the India Festival presented by Flushing Town Hall from April through May 2013. Mayor's Awards Ceremony Charanams performed at the Mayor's Awards Ceremony at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, NY on Tuesday, Nov 01, 2011. The event was hosted by New York City Mayor, Mike Bloomberg & Actor, Alec Baldwin. SummerStage Charanams performed at the prestigious, popular SummerStage Concert. Charanams played the opening act at the SummerStage main concert for the day featuring Wanda Jackson & Imelda May. Charanams presented the compositions from their winning performances at the Battle of the Boroughs. Charanams wins New York Ultimate Battle of the Boroughs!!!! In a fierce contest of over 500 bands, Charanams won the Ultimate Battle contest on June 17, 2011 (Friday). Charanams was the ONE and ONLY Indian music band in this contest! Charanams performed "The Mystic Earth" and "The Hudson Ride" which blew away the crowd. Thousands of fans watched the performance from all over the world. Charanams thanks the great fans for voting aggressively for us and for sending numerous congratulating messages. We are moved and very humbled. Charanams is proud and privileged to have brought this accolade for Indian classical music! On March 4, 2011, Charanams Band presented a fabulous Carnatic Jazz performance at The Battle of the Boroughs contest in New York - competing with 8 other western bands! Charanams was the favorite band of the audience and the judges to become the Top 3 finalists of Queens in the contest. After a week-long voting, Charanams has won this round and will be Queens Representative in The Ultimate Battle on June 17, 2011! Thank you fans and supporters - we love you! Charanams performed "The Himalayan Queens" in Hemavathy Raga blended in Jazz style.
