CULTURAL CROSSROADS: BRAZIL MEETS INDIA Friday, April 05, 2013; 8pm Venue:Flushing Town Hall,137-35 Northern Blvd. Flushing, New York 11354. Flushing Town Hall presents Nivedita ShivRaj performing Indian music on the Veena with her World Music band - Charanams, in Cultural Crossroads, mixing two cultures. The team will enthrall the audience with carnatic compositions and original compositions of Nivedita ShivRaj, lush melodies with strong spiritual connection. Two cultures - Brazil and India, come together on one stage for a NEW series with an open dance floor. Dance lessons at 7pm will be followed by music of the two bands and a musical jam. Velly Bahia features Axe music from Bahia, linking Brazil’s African roots with energetic drumming, dancing and homage to the deities - The Orishas. The concert is one of the many events of the India Festival presented by Flushing Town Hall from April through May 2013.

November 01, 2011; Charanams performed at the Mayor's Awards Ceremony. The event was hosted by New York City Mayor, Mike Bloomberg & Actor, Alec Baldwin. Shrine, October 22, 2011 SummerStage Wednesday, July 27, 2011; Charanams performed at the presstigious, popular SummerStage Concert. Charanams played the opening act at the SummerStage main concert for the day featuring Wanda Jackson & Imelda May. Charanams will present the compositions from their winning performances at the Battle of the Boroughs. SummerStage, a program of City Parks Foundation, presents performances of outstanding artistic quality, free of charge, to serve the diverse communities of New York City. The artists represent a breadth of genres and cultures and perform in an outdoor setting accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. SummerStage strives to develop audiences' deepening appreciation for contemporary, traditional, and emerging artists as well as the communities in which these artists originate. rare carnatic compositions on Vishnu, blending carnatic music with elements of Jazz.
The concert was a part of the Target First Saturday Concert series, celebrating the exhibition ”Vishnu- the blue skinned savior” at the Brooklyn Museum. Samyuktha ShivRaj, Janani Kannan, Amrita Rajagopal - Vocal Ultimate Battle of Boroughs June 17,at The Jerome L.Greene Performance Space, New York Charanams won the Queens Battle of the Boroughs to represent Queens at the Ultimate Battle among the five boroughs of New York City.
